Heavens Above, no pun intended, but can you believe the insensitive broadcasts going on with certain religions in Fiji. Is this a follow on from the irrelevant 5.12.06.
Now that the illegal regime has abrogated the constitution and sacked the legal judiciary all those with evil intentions are emerging from their slimy depths to impose their disgraceful will on the innocent and unsuspecting.
In this day and age, for so called religious leaders who are quick to cry foul that they are being mistreated, misunderstood and discriminated against, some of these pundits really need to be re-educated on positive social values and responsibilities and stop flouting and exploiting their ungodly doctrines.
What on earth does pundit Maharaj mean by his ridiculous statement as printed in todays Fiji Times:
PRESERVING higher caste duties is being reinforced by the re-establishment of an organisation consisting purely of Brahmans, the highest-ranking Hindu social class.
The formation of the Akhil Shree Sanatan Dharam Brahman Purohit Sabha for the Northern Division is an attempt to address the usurping of priestly duties by those that don’t belong to the higher caste.
According to the organisation’s president, Pundit Ashok Maharaj, non-Brahmans are going around conducting prayers.
“Brahmans are the only ones ordained by the gods to perform these prayers,” he said.
“The prayers said by the Brahmans are received by the gods because the mantra or religious chants said by those from this caste have special powers.
“This is according to our religious books. What we have found is that persons from lower castes are making these prayers for people who are being cheated out of a special connection to the gods.
“Non-Brahmans performing prayers do not benefit the person they are praying. It’s the same as a carpenter does carpentry, mechanics deal with mechanical issues while Brahmans deal with prayers.”
Pundit Maharaj argued that that the organisation, which has 42 registered members, was not attempting to impose the caste system in Fiji.
Registered members hold special identifications that show they belong to the higher caste which must be produced on demand from members of the public needing prayers.
“Non-Brahmans conducting prayers will have to answer to the organisation,” he said. “We are calling on public support to demand to see the ID card.”
This kind of behaviour is outrageous, especially with Diwali beginning this weekend 17.10.09.
The Diwali Festival is always much anticipated by the people of Fiji regardless of what their racial or religious preference is.
Diwali is the Festival of Lights, Light, being the symbol of hope and positive energy, indicates the victory of good over evil. By spreading light in every corner of our premises, we try to destroy the reign of darkness, on the night of Diwali. People decorate their premises with diyas, electric bulbs and other decorative electric lighting fixtures, to make their surroundings filled with colorful light and to make it bright and beautiful
Those of us who don’t decorate our homes are always delighted by the beautiful lights and will walk around our neighbourhoods or drive about to experience and enjoy this wonder.
That’s Fiji & how we’ve always lived comfortably side by side regardless of race or religion, this dogmatic statement and attitude by pundit Maharaj is most unwelcome in any society, but it seems anything goes under the illegal regimes inept watch, with religious intolerance rearing its ugly head.
How dare he imply that some human beings are more acceptable than others. For someone who purports to be religious, hasn’t he learned that faith is from the heart no matter who or what, one worships.
Did the pundit get his ole kundalini knotted up too tight with his dhoti? His irreligious, inexcusable statement is totally unacceptable not only for our Hindu brothers and sisters but to all of humanity who are continually seeking a solution for peace and goodwill toward all mankind.
