Update: 8:13PM MAGISTRATE and former military lawyer Ana Rokomokoti has been appointed into the the Fiji courts’ chief registrar’s office.
This was confirmed by Public Service Commission permanent secretary Parmesh Chand.
He said Ms Rokomokoti was appointed the acting chief registrar yesterday.
Mr Chand said the move was in line with the realignment of Fiji’s judiciary by President Ratu Josefa Iloilo who declared the 1997 Constitution abrogated last Friday.
Ms Rokomokoti was sworn to the bench on May of 2007, which made her Fiji’s youngest magistrate at 34 years of age.
She has a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Tasmania and holds a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University.
Meanwhile, the courts remained closed today.
A notice at the courthouse at Government Buildings in Suva said all court cases would be deferred by a month.
