Vice president can be elected without GCC: Ratu Jo

Bloggers, see what this bastard is now endorsing. The Task Force was first instructed to go to the 14 Provinces and hear and collect their views on the composition of the new GCC, which was headed by Cokanauto.

The views of the 14 Provinces were then tabled to Cabinet, but changed to include that Bainivore be Chairman, causing Cokanauto to speak out publicly resulting his being dumped and in comes $2 Jo.

$2 Jo then goes around for the 2nd time to all 14 Provinces to explain to them the proposed GCC Bill, together with the People’s Charter and seeks their endorsement plus their nominating 3 delegates to the new GCC.

85% of the 14 Provinces rejected the People’s Charter and either refrained or refused to send it delegates or those that did, sent their original delegates to the previous legal GCC, knowing full well, that some or most of them would be disqualified under the new GCC Regulations.

$ 2 Jo was adamant that the GCC Meeting would take place in June, come rain, hail or shine, then after he was put to shame by the 14 Provinces, he then extended the deadline to August, then now he sings his Master’s tune by agreeing to elect a Vice President if the Chiefs still do not constitute a quorum.

SV Team wishes to ask, sa vakaca tu mada na tidamu drasa oqo!

 Keep blogging ragone!

Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) task team chairman Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo has backed Interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama’s suggestion to have the vice-president elected.
Commodore Bainimarama said earlier that if there are not enough numbers for a sitting of the Great Council of Chiefs – than the vice-president could be elected by the people.
Bainimarama had made the statement after most provincial councils rejected the reviewed GCC report.

He says provincial councils must to accept the changes to the Great Council of Chiefs.

Ratu Jo says that after assessing visits by the GC task team to the provinces he is hopeful the GCC can meet in August.

Ratu Jo says it is very important that the position of vice president be filled and it is for the GCC to make the appointment.

He says if the GCC fails to sit and therefore appoint someone, a candidate could be elected to the position.

  2. Budhau Says:

What exactly is wrong with electing the VP and the President. The Fijians make up about 57% of the population – so it is not as if the Indians will hijack the election.

and we are all for democracy and all that – so why not have a free and fair election.

unless the Fijian chiefs want to play the musical chair game with the President and VP position – and why shouldn’t the rest of Fiji citizens, those that are non-indigenous have a say in who becomes the President and the VP.

On one hand you want the international community to support your cause for democracy and on the other you oppose such democratic moves.

  3. Dauvavana Says:

Budhau you idiot Chodo will stage manage the lection fro Nailatikau to win using the $2 million stolen from Haryana intended for poor cane farmers

  4. Budhau Says:

Dauvavana – why are trying to insult Fijians – they make up 57% of the population and Chaudary can still steal the election.

That 2 million that Chaudary had – I am sure qarase and the like have contacts that can come up with millions also.

BTW – don’t worry too much about them “poor cane farmers” and the 2 million – why don’t you worry about the hundreds of millions that have been stolen from the poor Fijians – those same ones that are complaining why are they lagging behind in the commercial sector.

If Chaudary really stole the money from poor cane farmers, I am sure they are smart enough to see the light – just like you have seen it.

  11. Jese Waqalekaleka Says:

    @ Budhau,

how do you propose the President or VP to be elected within the 1997 Constitution?

It is not the issue of numerical superiority, but the rule of law as you claim to uphold.

    Budhau

If you talking about the NBF that was all inflated figures. Lionel Yee had advised that the figure was actually lower than $50,000,000 as the amount were recovered through the Asset Management Company.

The Agriculture scam thats been dealt with the courts and police. You must learn that policies are written by policy makers and only presented by Ministers. To action that policy is left with Ministry workers and the Minister have no direct correlation to it. There might have been abuse but was it the Ministers or the civil servants who were actioning this policy.

  16. Daunifika Says:

An Accountant friend of mine told me that the Australian High Commissioner in his gig at their Shangri-La talkfest was quite strong about smart sanctions continuing and the brakes being put on the aid programme. In a year when the new government is increasing aid to the rest of the Pacific, Fiji missed out badly. The vibes from the EU are not good for our sugar farmers either. The EU has always said that their funding will depend on promises made last year being honoured. I don’t know what the IG expects. They made an undertaking last year and they are going to be held to it. They will get a taste of a accountability whether they like it not.

    Which now’s covered with pooh!

  18. groggy Says:

Just to Digress – FHL saga

How stupid can you say to the press that he change was neccessary to ensure that their was greater accountability in FHL.

Jeepers that the problem when they just blowing trumpets and sitting on their arses and have a great dream on how to solve problems.

For goodness sake FHL has always been successful and has continuously made profits for its shareholders year in and year out. What new direction are they talking about? FHL has virtually chartered its path to commercial viability through careful analysis carried out by competent Fijian consultants who assess their investments very carefully.

Leweni should go blow Voreqe and Voreqe blow Aziz and Aziz blow Khaiyum and Khaiyum blow choodoo.

  19. Striker Says:

Accountability my foot. FHL had been constant with high returns. Except recently as a result of loss of business confidence arising from the coup. So Aziz, take your gun and shove it up Chodo’s backside.

  20. Anne Says:

This shows the consultation style of our IG. Go out and try to ram your agenda down peoples throats. If they do not want to swallow, as 85 % of the provinces have done, go away and do what you want to do in the first place. We have a military dictatorship that quite obviously fails to disguise its true character. Its Chodo’s way and nothing else. I wished they stopped wasting peoples time abrogate the constitution, declare martial law and formally hand all control to Franck. Chodo could then play the puppetmaster much more effectively and we all knew where we stand.

  21. Jese Waqalekaleka Says:

Well $2 Jo ambitions make become a reality to be VP.

    God help Fiji.

  22. natewaprince Says:

    VP- Voreqe’s Polo shiner.

  23. Ispy Says:

I wonder – just how exactly is the VP going to be “chosen” by the people?

By election – that costs heaps of money to organise and is ultimately unconsitutional.

By referendum – thats equally expensive and is just as unconstitutional.

By meeting of the new look GCC (made up appointees of the interim administration) – most likely to the case but not really a “choice of the people” and also ultimately unconsitutional.

By appointment by the Minister for Fijian Affairs or interim (illegal) PM – just plain wrong and again unconsitutional.

By appointment by the President – unconstitutional.

Either way one looks at it, there’s no lawful way to appoint the Vice President without amending or abrogating the Constitution.

Since they can’t legally amend the Constitution without a Parliament…

…they really have only ONE option.

It matters not what anyone thinks , this regime decided years ago just exactly what it had in mind and how it would achieve it’s goals . Anyone who believes otherwise , is deluding themselves ! The processes this regime have put into place , are merely a smokescreen to hide their real intent . And one can only assume that that is total dominance over all facets of fijian society . Hasn’t anyone in Fiji understood yet , that Fiji is being sold out to the asians from under your feet , by your own countrymen ?

The silly Fijians including the selfish Ganilau and Bai do not know and do not bother. GENOCIDE is the MISSION. It can achieved politically .

    To India and Manning
hahahaha…yeah lets start with crashing the South Pacific Exchange dominated by India and the banks! Maybe the Fijians can start thinking about the 6 billion deal now…hehehehe Take your pick!
Fijians are lousy merchants anyway because their eyes have always been to big for their stomach(traditionally) thus the need to have a corporate body(GCC new look) to curb the crooks that take advantage of the Natadola projects etc. I say Code of conduct is necessary because no chief should be above the law neither are accountants!
