IS ANOTHER CASSAVA PATCH DASH IN THE WORKINGS?

PUBLIC unrest is growing in Fiji as economic woes intensify in the troubled Pacific Island nation.

Fiji has been isolated by sanctions imposed after Commodore Frank Bainimarama’s 2006 coup.

Unnamed sources in the capital Suva told The Australian ordinary Fijians were becoming “increasingly disenchanted” at the nation’s economic isolation and “failed promises” of the country’s coup leaders.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is playing down rumours of another coup. Officials confirm “background noise” linked to rising public unease over the past two months.

However, its travel advice to Fiji remains unchanged at the second lowest safety setting — to “exercise caution” due to the unresolved political situation.

One Fijian insider who asked not to be named said: “It’s difficult to establish what’s fact from fiction right now — coup rumours have been sweeping around here for the last month or so.

“I think we’re going to see a shift soon — something for the better — maybe a move (by Bainimarama) to be more politically inclusive.”

The Australian National University’s Fiji expert, Brij Lal said “deepening dissatisfaction” was taking hold across Fiji.

In the absence of a free media in Fiji, “gossip and rumour” were flourishing, Professor Lal said.

Splits also appear to be emerging in the ranks of the country’s military.

Lieutenant-Colonel Tevita Mara — the commander of the 3rd Infantry Regiment, the country’s biggest army formation — has been ordered on leave pending a corruption investigation.

More than 40 per cent of Fiji’s 800,000 population now lives below the poverty line, Professor Lal said.

Definately a heckva good news, but the best thing to do is to caught Bai before he start to take-off-cause once he’s in full stride, you can forget it? Even the bullets are not fast enough for this man! Bai is like a rocketship, the backside is always open, in order to remove bad gas ?

  2. tora Says:

Hey, is this a true story or just a rumor? That is that Tevita Mara is been ordered on leave so he can be investigated? Who is investigating Tevita Mara? What major corruption did he caused, to give Bai and his financier the excuses they so needed, in order to safely take displacement action?Did Tevita Mara misused funds from the Lau provincial bank accounts?

  3. Jeke Says:

    ‘economic woes’?

Ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait till the 200k Sugar Fairies come home to roost?

Industry comprises 2 components – growing – milling.

Part one currently emloying 20th century tecnique – as for 2?
    What can you say?

Tens of millions spent on upgrades that have somehow left the mills in worse condition than they were previously? Defies logic?

Watch closely how minister & crew handles this one?

  6. tora Says:

Hey, Soli is it true about Mara been sent home like a small kid pending investigation to some financial dealing? Or you’re just trying to get everyone reading your website, going wacko?Hopefully, he didn’t steal money from the Lau provincial funds, cause if he does, than he’d deserved to be sent home.

  7. Annon. Says:

Apparently you know who has just taken personal control of dire situation in Sugar.

Interesting watching how he’ll put years of military training into practice?

Can cane be ordered to grow?

    Broken mills rejuvenated on command?

200k innocent dependents fed via decree?

  8. tora Says:

Wow, 17,323 Fijians migrated since the Military pulled the coup, Can you imagine all the educated Fijian left to trade their products abroad leaving the country to be run by idiots and self serving blockheads! And you wonder why the blockhead Prime Minister is hoping for the FSC to make a miracle, turn around soon? The FSC has recently been removed from the SPSE listing due to lack of working capital. Dah! you’ve screwed up the Tourist Industry, then the Gold Mine, now the Sugar Industry, what else is next-Bai-ya?

  9. hari Says:

How come there is no covert action against the Voreqe regime from all these democratic nations? How come New Zealand,Australia,Britain and US are daily trashing the Bainimarama Regime in the paper and on TV but are not actively pursuing covert actions in order to get rid of this Regime? Could it be that they don’t want a rich and native administered country operating near New Zealand and Australia? Definately, something to think about.

  10. Annon. Says:

    @ hari.

If current crisis within FSC is example of what u suggest? Definately not.

  11. hari Says:

Well, it has finally happen, we knew it was bound to happen but we didn’t know it was going to be this early? Bainimarama says that Pita Driti and Ro Ului Mara have been sent home on leave because they have significant amount of leave remaining? Yeah right Bai, its very scary to leave these two Kai Lau together in the Military as they might plan to dump or overthrow you, with their own coup? BUT, do you think that this is the right time to make a stupid move? Are you calling their bluff? or are you just too tyied of living?

  12. tora Says:

    BREAKING NEWS….
A morning revolt at the Queen Elisabeth military barrack occurred this morning as the newly Bainimarama appointed Lt Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga and Major Amani Suliano showed up to assumed their newly appointed posts. A statement from the Military Camp says that both officers are currently under-house arrest and movements are underway to Arrest Bainimarama and those under his influence? The President is expected to make an announcement via Fiji TV and The Fiji Times this afternoon?

  14. tora Says:

OK smart guy, what you think happen? Bai continue to decimate the military by removing anyone he think has the power to pull a counter coup. The only problem he is than replacing these military professional with idiots who has no military schooling and or academic background whom he could use in the civil services? This then leave him in a precarious situation with a crews of untrained dude who cannot think for themselves and have to continuously call Bai for directions etc,. Who is next on his list? Could it be Peni-Ganilau-i mean the man is an idiot but is getting too powerful and has been a Deputy Prime Minister whenever Bai is abroad? Why would Bai wants a meeting with the Tui Cakau last week? Could it be that he wanted to rattled the Ganilau cages before been sent home and investigated?

  15. veda Says:

I guess the test will happen when he got hit with a bad storm, only than will we know if he is truly a born sailor-like you said.I wonder what will he do if he gets hit with a hurricane? Tornado or tsunami?

  16. veda Says:

Tora, Peni Ganilau must have heard your thought and decided to give it all up before Bainimarama has time to makeup an excuse to lay him off or investigate him for previous Dinau and misused of the military funds? The man has tendered his resignation and how come ms John is making all the appointments?Hey maybe Mary should be careful about this Aussie spy?

  17. peni Says:

Howcome Bai is answering questions on whats happening in Fiji-all the way from China? Has he skipped the country with our Tax dollars and leaving all them dummies high and dry? Is he coming back or has he taken the one way ticket?Has Ratu Ganilau quiet or didn’t want to be investigated and sacked?Did he issued the wrong visa to Mr Roth or was he paid under the table by Mr Roth?

  18. tora Says:

Hey guys, is something wrong with Bai? Why was he in China for this long and why was he visiting China too often?Seems to me that he may have had a stroke or heart attack? When he came back on Thursday or Friday he seems to be favouring the left hand with his right? definate sign of stroke. Now i hear that he has asked Ratu Epeli to take back his post and remain as Deputy Prime Minister.I have a good solution for you Mr Voreqe Bai-quite while you’re still walking? Ratu Epeli already knew what is happening to you and thats why he resigned. You’re a walking dead man!!!
