Todays Fiji Sun Editorial:
When interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama was forming his government in the days immediately following the December 5, 2006 coup, he asked each minister to declare his or her financial status and commercial interests.
It was a sensible precaution designed to avoid any future conflict of interest.
It is not known whether or not interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry declared at that time that he held substantial bank accounts in Australia. If he did, it ought to have given Cdre Bainimarama pause. If he did not, the PM must surely sack him without delay.
But by far the preferable solution to all of this is for Mr Chaudhry to resign. The facts are incontrovertible. He failed for three successive years to lodge income tax returns as required by law. That alone should disqualify him from holding the position he now occupies.
However, in addition to that, Mr Chaudhry failed to disclose the existence of and interest earned on overseas bank accounts which at one time held $2 million. In the full knowledge of his own tax status he was fond of stating that all who owe income tax or any other tax must pay up promptly without exception.
This absolutely disqualifies him from being Minister of Finance – or minister of anything else for that matter. He must resign. If he declines to do so, the Prime Minister has no choice but to dismiss him.
The offer of an inquiry by the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority fools nobody. That authority reports to Mr Chaudhry as Finance Minister and, for that reason, any inquiry by that body no matter how thorough can never be seen as independent.
Indeed, any inquiry should focus on FIRCA itself rather than the minister.Among other objectives such an inquiry should seek to establish why some taxpayers receive more sympathetic treatment than others – and for how long this practice has been in place.
And if his Cabinet colleagues refuse to stand up now and be counted, they merely compound and complement the offence, in the process tarnishing their own reputations and making a mockery of the Government’s stated commitment to transparency and accountability.
For the sake of the nation, Mr Chaudhry must resign today.
——————————————————————————–
And by the way
The interim regime wants to make the Great Council of Chiefs apolitical. The intention is to have members leave their political ideologies and leanings outside the council meeting and come in to discuss national affairs with open minds.
Their common objective is to seek solutions to problems which in their wisdom believe are in the best interest of the nation. But that cannot happen if the interim regime insists having the minister in charge of Fijian affairs chair the council.
Although it maintains, as the interim regime explains, the council’s link with the government of the day, it has to remember that the minister is a member of a political party which has formed the government and thus is bound by his party’s principles and ideologies. It is ridiculous therefore to expect the minister as chair of the council to be apolitical in his approach and influence during the meetings.
It is better to revert to the previous arrangement in which the council itself elects a chairman from among them. At least it would be perceived as less “political”.

I’ve just seen on the Fijian TV news that the jaundiced junta disobeyed a high court order stopping the deportation of Russell.
Michael McKenna, this would make a wonderful front page story for “The Australian” tomorrow.

If the pig asked each minister to declare his or her financial status and commercial interests which I agree was a sensible precaution designed to avoid any future conflict of interest then I would like to view his?
Just for interest sake – when Ross Ligairi was making his presentation in the UN on Fiji’s report on CERD, May 2009 was highlighted as the election date which is a two months away from the March 2009 promised to the pacific leaders in Tonga. Can we check and raise this issue to the people because they could have hoodwinked us again?
February 26, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Justice is at hand folks. This regime is about to topple and it will come from within it’s own ranks.
Watch the snakes turn on each other. There are some in this illegal junta who just cannot stomach what the pig is doing and will cause this illegal government to implode from within.
Be patient,sa voleka sara tiko ga qo.
February 26, 2008 at 7:57 pm
I disagree , the fact that chaudhry didn’t pay his tax , makes him more than qualified to be part of this illegal regime . After-all , birds of a feather ! Also , I get a little agitated when people keep referring to Chamudhry , Frank and others in the I G as Ministers , rather than Interim Ministers ! I think what’s missing here , is the realisation that none of these people hold legal ofice and therefore , have absolutely no authority in any of the capacities which they claim ! And these issues should always be approached from that stand point . I’m sorry , but as I continue to read down the posted comment , I can’t help but get annoyed . This regime and it’s I G Ministers , are not the Cabinet and not the government . If you talk as if they are , then they will behave as if they are , because anyone who doesn’t challenge their claim to legitimate authority , is by default , supporting their claim . I’d like to see the focus from Chaudhry to Frank’s alleged recent purchase for cash of a $185,000 home ! I would also like the Fiji community to challenge the Indian Consulate in Sydney and the Indian Government , through Australian and other International bodies , regarding these bank deposits . forget about Chaudhry , he is small fry now . Finally , regarding this posted comment , I want to say , that Frank doesn’t belong to nor represent any Political Party , he is a dictator , suspected of being involve of the murder of fellow soldiers in 2000 and possibly of those murdered since December the 5th.2006 .
February 26, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Further to the above , I just want to mention that I posted a comment in the Fiji Times some months ago , regarding the killing of the CRW soldiers in 2000 . And someone , possibly an Officer of the Military , in response to my comment , tried to justify those murders , as killings in a time of war ! Well , I personally don’t know if it was war , but I think that was for either a military or civilian court to decide , not a soldier . Now my point is this , Frank and many others in the Military , have been willing to justify , what we all know is illegal actions , to the point , where they seem to honestly believe their own explanations ! Are they delusional , sincere or misguided or just simply pulling our legs and just being criminals ?
February 26, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Mark, I think they’re not pulling our legs…they’re too busy pulling each others third leg. Good to see a couple of people have quit the NCCBF and its committee’s in disgust over recent events…latest being Mick Beddoes..hopefully any other decent people in there do the same and reduce it to a handful of wankers (pun intended). People are well and truly over this illegal morons and just waiting for something to start…I agree with NP…won’t be long now, there’s just too many seriously pissed off people at all levels of society, majority fijians….even the soldiers are finally starting to wise up…wawa cabolo…and when it does happen it won’t be pretty.

Hear Hear SV!
Problem is the FB knows that without Chodo the IG will fall apart. So, anyone who threatens Chodo, threatens Bai – that as simple an explanation as it gets. Thats why Russel Hunter is classified as a risk to “national security”. Sad really!
So we know that Chodo will not resign, no matter how much Ah Choo wants to be Finance Minister so he can instruct FIRCA not to move into the custom built FIRCA complex built by the Fiji National Provident Fund – because its “cheaper” for FIRCA to stay in the nasty-ass buildings owned by Ah Choo’s family company Kalton.
And no surprise with the disobedience of the court order – no wonder they abducted Russell and didn’t allow him to contact his family! They didn’t want Russell’s lawyer to apply for an injunction and stop the deportation. How sneaky is that. You can bet that oily salesman aiyarse was involved in planning that ‘grab and deport’ maneuver!!
After all the rfmf/interim government also disobeyed the murder charges signed by the Magistrate which were served on those 8 soldiers and 1 policeman in November last year – RFMF went ahead and put them on the plane to the Middle East for peacekeeping! Luckily the UN Pilot deported those murdering 9 pronto before they could evade justice.
So evasion, lies, sneakyness are the hallmark of this murdering military dictatorship – and then they have the CHEEK to write a speech read out by the bumbling ARCHBISHOP today that “FIJI NEEDS A DIFFERENT DREAM” Pray tell, what dream are Frank, Chaudhry and the archbishop having??? coz that is not what their ACTIONS tell. And it is known that ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.
Beddoes has resigned. Siwatibau has resigned. How long till the rest of those in the illegal interim cabinet continue with their DREAM/DELUSION. Take note bloggers of those who continue to grab grimly for dear life, onto their dream/delusion. Take note too of those evil minds that facilitate their bumbling nightmare. Yes, it is a nightmare, but it surely is something strong that they are smoking, to continue to believe in frank/chaudhry’s toilet paper charter.
For us, lets breath the clean fresh sea air, keep our minds clear and our wits sharp. Me gata tiko vaka na selekava!!! Freedom is at hand. We just can’t wait for the disintegration of this evil illegal regime of total wanking dicktakers. Our prayers and pressure are working in our favor. Can imagine the talk the bipolar pig will have with no nosense Glyn Davies. I thought this was the man the pig said he did not want to meet sometime last year. Now he says he was going to meet him. The pig better be ready for some good dressing down like a little kid being told to listen and not propose any nonsensical bullshit he is now too well known for. He mental aptitude is well well below that of the people he will be meeting so he will be a sorry sight getting told off and being demanded to stop his pettiness and get back on track. I cant understand the thickness of vore and this regime for taking all these ridiculous actions with no due regards to international condemnation. They must really feel safe and confident with the guns and soldiers behind them. This is where the crux of the problem is. The soldiers are to be blamed for the coup and its negative repercussions. Cause if they had not gone about carrying out all the illegal orders the coup would not have succeeded. This is where the counter coup has to happen. Within the military. They should realise their mistakes and the wrong motives of their leaders and do something to make amends for their error of judgement. Because as I see it no matter what we say or try to do to deter the vore it won’t work since he knows the power base ie the guns and soldiers are still behind him. We must rattle the ig on all posssible fronts including the military, media, international community, NGOs and other lobby fronts.
February 26, 2008 at 9:55 pm
kacau, I see you mentioned the archbishop. Manilla had a Cardinal Sin; Fiji has an archbishop Sinner. Only someone inept, corrupt, immoral or all of the above could be associated with chaudhry’s illegal junta.
Wink, wink!
Nod,nod!
I hear on the grapevine that Ken Zinch went around this afternoon to talk some sense into archbishop Sinner.
When he got there he was dismayed at what he found.
He found sinners vest in her pantry
AND
her pants in his vestry.

The murdering militarygovernment is now intimidating the people by leaking their dirty tactics – we are now supposed to be in fear that our emails are being read. Get over it goons, theres more of us than you and the truth will always out no matter how you try to suppress it.
Doing Chaudhry’s bidding includes spying on emails as reported on Fiji One news. They apparently intercepted emails sent to Russell from Victor Lal – attaching scanned copies from Chaudhry’s FIRCA file, to be printed over the next few days – thats what the ‘national security’ risk is – Mahen is essential to Frank, so a threat to Mahen is a threat to Frank… next mission: DEPORT RUSSELL
Too bad Fiji Sun printed Lal’s article today with details of Chaudhry’s properties in Australia anyway.
In fact Chaudhry may have more than those two properties listed in the Sun today- properties bought with that $2m will be in Rajend’s name and the sister. How many kids does Chaudhry have anyway? 4? must be at least 6 properties at a minimum. Australian Taxation Office…. do your worst please!
We can count already those who are protecting Chaudhry:
1. Frank and his illegal cabinet crackers
2. RFMF – Qiliho, Driti and their dirty goons
3. Director Immigration – Commander Viliame Naupoto
4. Illegal Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration – Ganilau
5. PS Home Affairs – Tadulala
But I don’t hear a peep out of the Fiji Labour Party! Jokapeci? Lavenia? where are you??? YOOO HOOOO!!!!!!! speak up now and declare Chaudhry’s innocence!
But against these lot of idiots, there is a growing tide of condemnation at their stupidity in deporting Hunter:
1. Media Council – Daryl Tarte
2. CCF – Prof Vijay Naidu spoke up on legend today trying to caution the goons that CCF are in bed with – CCF is smoking the same weed as vore and chaudhry when it comes to the charter so theyll be one of the last ones clutching that toilet paper WHEN THIS SHIP GOES DOWN)
3. Mick Beddoes/UPP
4. Angie Heffernan
5. FWCC – Shamima
6. FWRM
7. SDL
8. Transparency International
The deportation is the lead item in australia and nz – hooray for Fiji – with despotic vore at the helm, Fiji is that cuckoo neighbour that is now not safe to speak your mind – not a new thing, but not exactly what we need for investment and tourism – it does untold damage to fiji’s reputation. something the goons at QEB dont realise.
And with the ever eloquent (not) vore, aziz, ganilau, naupoto to explain their side of the story, I just dont see them convincing ANYBODY.
Now add to the 8 listed above all those who criticised the Krishnamurthi report and the GCC changes… is that a good majority of people in Fiji? I’d say so! But we should also look at the rest – the sugar farmers who are chaudhry’s support base – as JDA has said: LETS NOT RENEW LEASES. That will wake them from this dream pretty quickly too….. One thing at a time, lets change the levers we do have a hold of… this ship is sinking inevitably…
But on a more constructive note: one thing we can do tomorrow/tonight that will have immediate effect:
ANYONE WITH CHAUDHRY’S TAX PAPERS – PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY PHOTOCOPY
THE MORE THE BETTER. IF THE PAPERS CAN’T PRINT THEM, DISTRIBUTE THEM AT THE MARKET, AT THE BUS STAND, AT THE SHOP, IN TOWN, AT WORK, AT LUNCH, AT THE RESTAURANT —– EVERYWHERE
EVEN BETTER, IF YOU CAN SCAN AND SEND THEM TO SV TO BE PUT ON THE INTERNET AND DISTRIBUTED BY EMAIL TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF FIJI.
Cmon people, lets keep the fire burning!
February 26, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Wooo…. ExFT… baci juicy mai nomu talanoa… spill spill!!!!!!
February 26, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Better still with Chaudhary’s tax papers – put it as a whole document somewhere so we can download, print and photocopy for everyone. The truth must be seen in black and white because saying/telling alone will not do it. remember we do have some docbting thomases out there. All they want is proof and if provided our numbers will sure increase and theirs decrease.
February 27, 2008 at 1:41 am
all it takes is one b-l-et .
just been watching animal farm !
nothing’s changed since 1954
February 27, 2008 at 5:02 am
Russell, you are in the perfect position to agitate for freedom in Fiji once more. Please talk to the media about what’s going on here. Talk to your Govt. Talk to your foreign affairs. Get Chaudhry’s bank accounts frozen – you have the numbers!
It is not for an Interim Govt to make constitutional or institutional changes. The role of an interim government is to keep things ticking over until free and fair elections can be held. That is what LQ did, and even SR. These jokers have no right to change the GCC or any other institution in Fiji. Make them pay!! March for your freedom!! Australia and NZ are watching now. Make the international community aware of what’s going on. Let them cut off the aid that is feeding the fat pig / snake brotherhood. Get Fiji forces kicked off the UN peacekeeping force. Cut off their finances. Get Chaudhry’s foreign assets frozen. Get the Junta out!
BTW, full marks to Shamima Ali and the FWCC / FWRM girls for stepping into the breach left by the so-called Fiji Human Rights Commissioner (who wouldn’t know a Human Right if one walked up and smacked her in the face). March March March, people!!
February 27, 2008 at 7:25 am
FijiGirl – Russell is a newspaper guy – his job is to report what is going on, with a opinion piece every now and than.
It is not for him to agitate for the freedom of Fiji. That job is yours and mine. Victor Lal’s job is to be thorn is Chaudary’s side.
Freezing Chaudary’s assets – the Australian authorities do not work like the IG in Fiji over there there is something called due process.
As for Shamima Ali – she has always done good – I hope the new government remembers this – and may be make her the head of the Human Rghts Commission.
February 27, 2008 at 8:57 am
Budhau – you’re an idiot.
February 27, 2008 at 9:28 am
Budhau …. u r one dillusional stupid idiot.
I just hope we meet so we can shake hands and break freakin neck.
vakacava mo lai veka mada. sa rui levu na denitoa tu nomu mona. luveni boci.
Russel must hav touched a nerve that keeps this IG breathing. at least the ppl know which nerve was that – yes: hard evidence backed with solid facts exposed in the media.
Freezing MC assets in aust/nz!! nah….let kill the bastard and ensure he pays for all the rightous speech his allways making….bleary hypocrite.
Given the opportunity….Shamima will make a great contributor to the FHRC….she’s currently there as a Board member and she’s doing just fine from where we stand. its the witch @the wheel who needs a mental checkup…every moment she’s of course compared to she’s paid for.
February 27, 2008 at 10:46 am
Budhau … I cant believe what Im going to say ..but for once ..I am going to agree with u hia….! Russell is merely reporting the truth whether he agitates or not thats besides the point. He is not agitating the country ..just those idiotic power grabbers IG. Before going to press they would have consulted their lawyers on legal ramifications having being satisfied it went ahead. Kudos to the newspaper houses in Fiji and their editorial for standing up to freedom of speech and democracy.
In any other democratic country.. A revelation such as those of Chodos guarantees a resignation. We are dealing with an Interim Govt whose basis of usurping power was for Transperancy ..( the very word they continuosly use ..now does the PIG know the meaning of the word).
Just to englighten.. In Wollongong (south of Sydney) a major headache for Iemma the NSW Premier erupted last week. Following the revelation that certain civil servants were embroiled in a saga whereby a townplanner was bedding and being courted by a property developer futhering his dealings and multiplex in the area. This implicated numerous top civil servants, towards the end of last week a few step down and others are having to front Integrity Commission to please explain.
If such Commission (being of integrity) were to be set up in Fiji.. I dont know whether we will have any politicians (past or present) will still be standing tall and proud today…. Hmmm … JUst a thought.
February 27, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Tebara, just to correct you…it’s the Gosford townplanner and not the Wollongong one…. thanx for the motion for Fiji govt to set up some similar Integrity Comm, I’m all for that…after all FB wants to weed out all corrupt pple.
February 27, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Sorry Ima its the Wollongong City Town Planner, in a current commission of enquiry of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC)
February 27, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Thanks Dauvavana .. the only political scandal north of Sydney is of the accused paedophile Milton Orkopoulos a deposed former Labour member for Lake Macquarie.
February 27, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Good take Budhau on Shamima Ali. She would do an honest job compared to the current one at HRC.
Hey read his posts, folks. He is making sense. He is on our side! Welcome aboard, Budhau!
February 28, 2008 at 11:43 am
Forgive me for my previous boci ways. I repent and am sorry for idol/devil worshipping and not making much sense. I denounce MPC as an incompetent fool (like me).
February 28, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Budhau ..enough of the self pity talk … we’ve read enuf of it…!! Put your money where your mouth really is ..!
February 28, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Tebara, my bad!! U are right..it’s the wollongong townplanner.
February 28, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Who cares if Wooomoooloong or whatever. May be they should just pull a coup out there also.
February 28, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Budhau ..take a chill pill brother …. !! Now u r starting to sound like an idiot … !!
