A METHODIST minister has called for the dissolution of the military and labelled the institution as one that comprised lazy, non-productive members who spent most of their time polishing shoes.
Reverend Josateki Koroi said he outlined this in his letter to the National Council for Building a Better Fiji when he turned down the invitation to join.
“The coup is based on a robbery philosophy. It’s like stealing from a bank to set up a school,” he said.
“If they want to create a better Fiji, then Frank (Bainimarama) and his army should grow their own food and produce food in their own villages. That’ll make a better Fiji. The faster they do this the better.”
Mr Koroi claimed the army did nothing “all day, everyday” which led them to pick up their guns and frighten ordinary civilians.
“They don’t produce anything yet they receive hard-earned money. The army should be dismissed and their members sent back to the villages where they can farm and produce something for their family. They shouldn’t be allowed to depend on people’s money.
“In fact, they should not be paid. They don’t deserve any wages. The Bible says the labouring people should be honoured and fed, and the lazy should not be fed,” he said.
After he declined the invitation to the council, Mr Koroi said he was surprised at a second invitation to join an arm of the council. “I was invited to join the second working group in the good governance task team,” he said.
Mr Koroi was asked to join the working group on institutional and public sector reform.
“I didn’t agree with the philosophy of the charter. The whole thing is illegal. The charter is trying to create a new Fiji. I don’t believe a coup can create a new Fiji. Only God can create a new Fiji and it’s our responsibility to respect that,” he said.
Mr Koroi said the interim regime wanted to abolish the identity of Fijian people and recreate Fiji into a non-racial country.
“I don’t know any country in the world that doesn’t have its own unique people. What part of the world has no indigenous people? God made all his people distinct from those of other countries, from India, China, New Zealand and Australia and Fiji is no different. The different people of each country are to be respected for that,” he said.
He said it was “totally blasphemous” to deny God’s creation from being indigenous people of their country.
“A better Fiji will be built on righteousness, hard work and good governance,” Mr Koroi said.
Mr Koroi said another reason he rejected the invitation to join the council and its working group was because of the interim regime’s philosophy that might was right.
Military spokesman Colonel Mohammed Aziz questioned whether Mr Koroi was speaking as a military officer. “If so, does it apply to him also? He served in active service and remains on the Retired Officers list. Officers do not resign unless they wish to be decommissioned,” was all Colonel Aziz said.
I laughed and thought of blogger Lauan Boy when I read this!!!

Well said Rev Koroi !!! I am glad one minister of the cloth is continually consistent ! Not like those other 2 Monsters of the cloth !
Woilei o Nazi Aziz what a kinda silly question – what does Mr Koroi’s comments have to do with him speaking as a Military Officer ? If I recall rightly Mr Koroi was one of the best ever Military Chaplain serving in the Middle East .. in fact my husband served with him at that time and he was so popular the Officers regularly requested he be their Chaplain.
It was also in those days that the ROYAL Fiji Military Forces was an HONOURABLE institution full of REAL GENTLEMEN with INTEGRITY .
And what does nasty Aziz mean in that last sentence ?? Eeeuwww boidada !
February 15, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Aziz should go and see his farm at Pacific Harbour because Rev Koroi is one that “vosa tara” . He also use to have a very succesful farm at Tovata many years ago.

If these goons think they are so macho and gung ho,I suggest Australia and the intervention forces be withdrawn from East Timor and we send a few thousand of our arsewhackers to replace them.
Then they’ll find out how it feels to face off with an opposition who also have the same type of weapons that they have.
Kua mada na vaka teratera tiko i Viti ni sega na nemami yaragi, dou vei cai.
Then we’ll see if this f***k’n pig can strut around town like a rooster,ya bloddy bunch of wankers.

Vinaka Talatala, o kemuni o ni vosa tiko baleta ni ko ni rawati kemuni, ko ni dau teitei, daucakacaka, tell Aziz ( ulu drika) to go & see your farm at Pacific Harbour & your house in Mavana, oh! maybe Aziz should take Pig & his brainless soldiers to see your farm & then come back to the RFMF Camp & bulldoze all the buildings & turn the filthy looking camp into a big farm to supply the nation . Right now the camp is just another Raiwaqa housing, wasting taxpayers money housing these unproductive lot.

Well, Rev Koroi, well said , that is exactly the naked truth, like it Baini or not that is the truth. A waste of money buying millions of dollars of tavioka dalo, cabbage from Richard Chow Freshet and Michael Joe of Joes farm each year….why cant they save some money and plant their own…use those strong military men to plant the land…plenty land there to plant and feed themselves…you know pig farm, chicken farm etc etc…..No, no , no, lets just pay the suppliers, easy, And this is the guy who wants to be a leader, dou, gosh , cant even lead his troops to the feild to fight the real battle with the knife and digging fork….Bainimarama, as your name is translated into English mean “Women in a fence” or “in a womans community”…he is a pufta….he doesnot know how to farm….period…what a shame.
February 15, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Thank you Rev Koroi. You said it exactly like it is and your advise are quite appropriate too in that they should plant foods instead of doing nothing or else go back to the villages. They did not even help out after cyclone Gene devasted a lot of infrastructures and dwellings. Are they just there to overthrow governments at the whim of their lunatic leaders and bully, bash and kill harmless, armless civilians. This is a sheep mentality with no conscience and thinking capacity in other words no brains. The honorable thing to do is for the army to retake the government from these IG thieves and return it to the people and they will be forgiven. The army have the guns we don’t or else it will be a different story altogether.

There’s a very brave man – well said Reverend Koroi.
Reverend Koroi is a man who is self sufficient & knows what he is talking about.
Unlike those other 2 cebos who rely on the ‘flock’ & the church itself for their livelihood – no wonder the $100 per day to attend the farcical charade meetings made up their evil minds for them.
There’s no way in the world the charter charade or any de-reservation of reserved native land can be made legal as there is no Parliament – Hello ig – is the glass half full or half empty.

Getting rid of the military, now, why would we want to do that. The problem is not the military. When the miliatary was on our side in 1987, they seem to be doing fine.
The problem is not the military, the problem is that this military is on the wrong side.
What we have to do is get and bigger, better military that is on our side.
February 16, 2008 at 10:52 am
The Rev knows what hes talking about. after all, its from his farm that the military dogs are getting their dalo, paid by taxpayers. Show them to them!
February 16, 2008 at 2:32 pm
We just need about 500 soldiers, the rest can go back to the village & help in the village development, teitei na dalo, tavioka, tara vinaka na vale, na vale ni vo, samaki na koro, na koronivuli, there is millions of things to be done to keep them occupied, otherwise they’re just wandering idle at the camp & the devil will use those idle hands to do evil!!! Ni taura tiko na kaiviti macawa na dakai, ra taura tiko nai lavo & cakacaka na kaidia.
February 16, 2008 at 3:37 pm
We do not need a Military at all unless Tonga decides to take us on once again.
I disagree with Budhau. 1987 was wrong as well and it was the start of the end for the Honour of the RFMF. JUst because they were on our side then doesn’t make them right. Sorry.
1987 started the rot, 2000 and 2006 finished them off for ever as a respected force contributing to the betterment and progress of Fiji.
February 17, 2008 at 11:07 am
I see that some of you have started to see that light. That we do not need a military. A professional police can take care of any internal threat to our country and we agree that Tonga ain’t going to decide any time soon to take on Fiji.
This thing about us Fijians, a warrior race and all this need for a military. Some of our best joined the army.
If we really want to keep the military, lets have the RFMF Band, the rest we can do without – but them again, some drum major from the band might aspire to become a coup leader or a diplomat.

Im sorry I dont think Tonga is a threat! They have a small army and the nobles take everything. However, I do concur with you that the military is a waste of space and money. Keep the brass band and everyone can find other work. The qualified officers can join other international army’s. Frank and the rest of his goonies can reside in Naboro max. and plant dalo as their new occupation. Their families should be stripped off assets and should be ceased by the state. They can all go back to the village.
February 17, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Why keep the band? The Police band will do nicely. Save the taxpayers $100m that they’ve blown the last year
February 18, 2008 at 12:02 am
Honestly, the amount of food that these guys consume and the navy, prisoners, so much is being wasted…..who wins, the suppliers….the business man.
So Frank, lets be Frank ay, you just dont have the balls mate! No Balls No Brains.
What are you polishing your buttons and belts for??Polishing your shoes for what…..are you going to eat your shoes??
I’ll tell you what to do with your button – button up your mouth, belt – you should be belted with it, and your polished shoes – you strap it tightly to your feet coz when you run again up that hill in Namadi, the thing doesnt fall off and get left behind.. OK
