“No taxation without representation!”

I liked this letter to the Editor – Fiji Times 28.1.08 –
European Colonisation
When one reads the history of European colonisation, you will note that they used arms and technology to conquer or marginalise the indigenous.
They exercise more economic measures such as divide and rule to subjugate any opposition.
The institutions of the indigenous are degraded, suppressed and subjected to psychological abuse so as to create a state of fear, helplessness and inferiority.
The tactics are well known in counter insurgency doctrines.
Fiji since December 2006 reflects a colonised land as the men with arms together with co-conspirators and collaborators take control, subjugate, divide and rule and propagate their own shallow notions of the ideal nation state through propaganda and outright lies.
They even tell the victims that their ending up as victims will be for their own good.
However, when we look back in five to 10 years from today, we will be pleased to realise that the enterprise launched in December 2006 failed just as colonialism did and that the NCBBF Budget could have been better spent on repairing the roads of Vanua Levu or even on the Social Welfare Department in light of the worsening economic situation.

The bi-polar pigs face turned blue,
When he dreamt he was humping old Prue,
He screamed in the night,
What a horrible sight,
When they saw it was perfectly true.

Lately in the news, the pigs are still trying to gather enough evidence to convict LQ on treason charges.
As the elections loom nearer, they are doing their darndest to disqualify him from standing.
But the pig should remember that this struggle for democracy is bigger than LQ,and bigger than the SDL party.
January 28, 2008 at 3:18 pm
The ig has always blamed the Prime Minister of Fiji Laisenia Qarase & his SDL party for everything THEY the ig has done illegally – excusez moi – LQ & the SDL were doing very well legally vinaka vakalevu ig – until bipolar no brainer piggie murderers & sore losing can’t get over it thieves staged a coup with the use of guns on 6.12.06 – NOW THAT’S TREASON OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.
NP – the ig has been rather quiet – I wonder what bullshit they’re manufacturing is going to lead up to. They can’t blame anyone except themselves for the situation Fiji is in now & since they’ve done everything that they falsely accused LQ & SDL of doing – how will they extricate their sorry arses.

Fiji judge urges lawyers to speak out
Justice Coventry said he decided early this month to “terminate” his contract after finding himself “unable to continue sitting”.

SUVA, FIJI —- Outgoing Fiji High Court judge Justice Roger Coventry says he is concerned with aspects of the Pacific nation’s judicial system and has called on lawyers to “speak out”, reports Fiji Live.
Justice Coventry was farewelled in a cocktail in Suva last evening organized by the Fiji Law Society. He told the lawyers present that “the immediate future is not rosy” and there are certain things lawyers can and should do.
“The first is to uphold, according to law, judicial office whether or not you like the individual office holder. Do not accept the legality for the sake of expediency or any other reason.
“If you do not draw your line here, then when you do draw it, it will be many steps back. Speak out! Judges can not. Bring cases, raise the issues. Acquiescence is the friend of illegality.”
Justice Coventry said he decided early this month to “terminate” his contract after finding himself “unable to continue sitting”.
“This was not a sudden decision,” he said. “I have been concerned with the speed with which cases of fundamental importance are progressing.
“I have been concerned over the rule, which requires the judge to recuse (disqualify) him or herself if that judge‘s position is dependent upon a particular answer to the question posed.
“I am concerned that acts, which on their face appear to be unlawful, are being presumed lawful until the court rules otherwise. “I am concerned that in circumstances that requires a judge or judges to take a particular course of action, that that course is not being taken.”
Justice Coventry adds that the resignation of the entire panel of the Fiji Court of Appeal late last year left behind “an unsatisfactory state of affairs” .“The knowledge that there is a respected and experienced Court of Appeal available to put right any errors is most reassuring,’ he said. ..He also said judges are humans and have their likes and dislikes in the same way as anyone else, but personalities must play no part in justice.”

I believe Victor Lal took Chodo to task, asking him to provide evidence of complicity of businessmen in the 2000 coup – where is the article?

Ex Fiji VP declines national council invite
28 JAN 2008
Fiji high chief and former vice-president Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi declined to join the National Council for Building a Better Fiji (NCBBF) when approached early last year.
Ratu Joni told Fiji’s national television that while he was approached to co-chair the NCBBF, but declined.
John Samy, one of the men involved in the designing of the Peoples Charter, told television’ Close Up programme that he was invited by interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry to Fiji in March last year.
He said the proposed charter was the subject of their discussion.
He said he had consultations with some locals including Ratu Joni, Professor Vijay Naidu, Rajesh Chandra of the University of Fiji, Reverend Akuila Yabaki and Jone Dakuvula.
Yabaki now sits on the council and Dakuvula is involved with the council’s secretariat.
While the rest were unable to confirm being approached, Ratu Joni said he was approached back in March and asked to give it a thought after which he declined to join the NCBBF.
The former ruling party, Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua stated it was now clear the proposed charter had been Chaudhry’s initiative.
SDL national director Peceli Kinivuwai said the SDL remains opposed to the charter and that Samy’s revelation had strengthened this position.
Questions sent to Chaudhry remain unanswered.

Ratu Joni would be the icing to their make believe cake.
No way Jose! The high chief, has principles!
January 29, 2008 at 6:27 pm
The way John Samy mentioned Ratu Joni’s involvement on TV was as if Ratu Joni supported the Charter. In fact Ratu Joni was consulted to Co-Chair the Committee which was totally different from what John Kulina wanted to potray on TV.
